Need For Sober Living In Truckee-Tahoe Community
It’s time to get real that our community is a drinking one with an outdoor recreation problem. I have heard it in meetings and in conversations. I have read it in both town and county behavioral surveys. The Truckee (and greater Lake Tahoe) community likes to drink. A lot. Point to an event or gathering that is not sponsored by and/or revolves around alcohol consumption and I will take my hat off to you. And with alcohol consumption comes other forms of intoxicants as well.
While there are people who can partake in having a drink I’m sure we all know someone in our life that’s been affected by addiction and our community is painfully lacking any kind of support for those who do need sobriety.
We need more than just a few “talk meetings” that are tucked away in anonymous back rooms. We need to offer people community, connection, accountability, and activity while gaining the skills needed to stay grounded and present in our beautiful world.
The following videos I am about to post over the next few days feature locals to the Truckee-Tahoe community willing to step from behind the anonymity veil to tell their story. Some are in recovery and some are related to others going through it. However, they all share the same opinion that our community needs more resources for those seeking or in recovery.
That is why Crow’s Nest Ranch here in Truckee, California will open up a sober living house and offer an outpatient program for those needing additional, continued support to recover from their addictive past. We will be a physical place with real people unafraid to say “I am in recovery.” Because when principles are just not cutting it, sometimes you need some personalities who will be there too.
Thank you. I look forward to meeting you, being there for you, and learning from you.
