Find Forgiveness
Forgiveness - for·give·ness /ˌfərˈɡivnəs/ noun
the action or process of forgiving or being forgiven.
"she is quick to ask forgiveness when she has overstepped the line"
Being able to forgive is essential to keeping ourselves from internalizing negativity. Without forgiveness, we hold grudges and resent others, which only increases negativity in ourselves. For addicts, this process is NOT easy. We have so many resentments towards others and toward ourselves that finding a way to forgive and let go of that pain can be extremely beneficial to our sobriety. If we just continue to dwell and hold onto past issues, our sobriety is in grave danger. For example, when we are resentful, we act and communicate in ways that increase internal conflict. Internal conflict creates confusion. Confusion creates uncertainty and uncertainty will end us up back in our addiction. Accepting and forgiving oneself, and others is crucial in our ability to move on with our lives and allow ourselves to heal.
